Art consulting
Studio Formichella offers art consulting and curation services throughout New York City and beyond, helping clients build collections that feel personal, unexpected, and entirely at home in their surroundings.
From finding the piece that starts a room to commissioning something made just for it, we love bringing clients into the process of discovering art they want to live with.
our Art consulting Process
01
Discovery
We begin with what you already love. We get to know your taste, your space, your existing collection, and the kinds of pieces you find yourself drawn to — even when you can’t quite explain why.
From there, we consider the architecture, furnishings, color, scale, and the opportunities throughout the space to begin shaping a direction for the collection.02
Curation
This is the fun part. We source across artists, galleries, studios, vintage and secondary markets, looking for work that brings something distinctive to the space.
Rather than choosing art simply because it “matches,” we look for pieces that create conversation — with the interiors, with one another, and most importantly, with the people who live there.03
Installation
Once the collection comes together, we consider framing, scale, grouping, and placement down to the final detail.
We coordinate with framers, installers, galleries, artists, and craftspeople to make sure each piece lands exactly where it should.Selected artwork

Whether we are building a collection from the beginning or finding the final piece for a room, our approach is always personal. There are no formulas and no shopping lists disguised as collections.
-
We help clients discover and acquire artwork that feels meaningful to them while considering the larger visual story of the home or space.
-
From emerging artists and independent studios to galleries and vintage finds, we source work across a wide network with an eye toward originality and longevity.
-
We bring individual pieces together into a collection that feels connected without feeling overly coordinated.
-
When a space calls for something completely its own, we work with artists and makers to commission original pieces tailored to the setting and the client.
-
The frame and placement can completely change the way a piece is experienced. We help select framing and determine scale, height, groupings, and final placement throughout the space.
-
A new design does not mean starting over. We love working with artwork clients already own, finding new relationships between pieces and giving familiar works a different life within the space.
Our Approach
We believe the best collections are built slowly, instinctively, and with a little curiosity.
Art is often where a home becomes most personal. It might be a serious painting, a photograph found while traveling, something inherited, a tiny work that makes you laugh, or a piece commissioned specifically for one strange little wall.
Studio Formichella approaches art with the same mix of intuition and intention that guides our interiors. We pay attention to scale, color, architecture, and composition, but we are just as interested in the emotional response to a piece. The goal is never to create a collection that looks “correct.” It is to surround our clients with work they genuinely want to keep looking at.
FAQs
Do you offer art consulting as a standalone service?
1
Yes. Art consulting can be part of a larger Studio Formichella interior design project or a focused service for clients who want help developing, expanding, or rethinking an art collection.
Can you help source artwork?
2
Absolutely. We source through our network of artists, galleries, studios, dealers, and makers, as well as vintage and secondary-market sources when the project calls for it.
Do you work with artwork I already own?
3
Yes — and we love to. Existing pieces often tell us a great deal about a client. We can incorporate a current collection into a new design, rethink placement, update framing, or identify pieces that would complement what is already there.
Can you commission custom artwork?
4
Yes. We work with artists and makers to develop commissioned pieces when we are looking for a particular scale, medium, subject, or point of view that cannot be found elsewhere.
Do you help with framing and installation?
5
Yes. We can coordinate framing, placement, and professional installation so that each piece feels properly scaled and connected to the architecture and furnishings around it.
Do you curate art for commercial spaces?
6
Yes. We provide art sourcing and curation for both residential and commercial projects, including offices, hospitality environments, showrooms, and other public-facing spaces.
