A terrace bistro tucked away in Nordstrom’s flagship location in New York becomes a vibrant open air Lounge each summer. Studio Formichella proudly leads the design efforts, bringing together production and landscaping teams to curate the terrace’s landscape design every year since 2023.
About the bistro verde project
Since 2023, we have partnered with Nordstrom to transform the terrace at Bistro Verde into an immersive seasonal destination, reimagining the landscape each summer with a fresh perspective. This annual installation is designed to capture the ease and vibrancy of an Italian aperitivo, evolving into an inviting Aperol lounge where lush planting, thoughtful styling, and playful details come together to create a memorable experience. Each season offers a new interpretation while maintaining the relaxed, garden-inspired atmosphere guests have come to anticipate.
A herbaceous, flowing green wall sets the backdrop, complemented by sculptural ornamental trees, whimsical florals, and layered plantings that soften the urban setting with movement and texture. Every element, from custom staging to the unmistakable Aperol-orange Vespa, is carefully considered to evoke the feeling of a sun-soaked summer escape in the heart of the city. The installation is as much about creating a sense of place as it is about the landscape itself, inviting guests to linger a little longer.
